Most classic-car collections are static. Polished cars behind ropes, started up twice a year, registered nowhere. Ours is the opposite. Twenty-eight cars on the road every week, all insured, all registered, all serviced by the same workshop that bought them.
Every car in the book is driven once a fortnight, minimum, whether or not it has been booked. Engines do not like sitting. Seals do not like sitting. Drivers do not like sitting either, and we have four of them on staff who treat the rotation as part of the job.
The cutoff is the year carburettors started disappearing from showrooms. Below it, everything we know about how to keep a car going for forty more years still applies. Above it, the cars become small computers, and other people are better at those than we are.
Each car is washed, fuelled, and walked-around by our team the morning of every collection. Anders or Margit will spend twenty minutes with you when you pick it up — how the choke behaves on a cold start, where the tools are, what to do if the temperature gauge climbs.
